Days: Monday through Friday; some weekends

Hours: 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.; may vary

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent, some college preferred
  • Strong oral and written communications skills
  • Intermediate knowledge of computers and Microsoft Office
  • Ability to organize multiple tasks
  • Ability to work under pressure, flexibility to work long or unscheduled hours

Primary Responsibilities:

To review and write Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's), as well as provide support for Donor Information Specialist. Revise and/or create Standard Operating Procedures as assigned. Review all Donor Services SOP's on a continual basis for revision recommendations. Revise and/or create PowerPoint Presentations as assigned. Provide technical instruction for staff as assigned. Perform on call duties for Record Review/Donor ID support or Donor Information Specialist as assigned. Assist in the configuration, planning, implementation, and training of new projects and enhancements, such as Donor ID. Maintain updated knowledge of regulatory requirements and manufacturer guidelines for donor services processes and equipment. Support Donor Information Specialist in the following tasks:

  • Evaluate allogeneic crossover eligibility for therapeutic patients with a diagnosis of Hereditary Hemochromatosis
  • Take orders from physicians concerning special donations (i.e., autologous/ directed/ therapeutic)
  • Facilitate the scheduling of all autologous and directed donors system-wide
  • Enter into Safetrace tracking system all patient and product information
  • Create and maintain all patient files
  • Supply all centers with appropriate special donation requests and orders
  • Answer calls and questions concerning special procedures, testing, donor eligibility, etc.
  • Make arrangements to ship autologous or directed donor units out of OBI service area. Collect fees involved and send billing form with payment to business office.  Notify receiving facility of units drawn and arrange shipping through Storage and Distribution
  • Receive orders from transfusion facilities for Type and Crossmatch or Type and Screen act as patient contact for Reference Laboratory Intermediary
  • Perform override on approved special procedures for eligibility and deferral status
  • Notify physicians and patients of non-transfusable units.  Follow up all special requests, notifying other departments as necessary
  • Receive orders for special procedures such as granulocytes, directed PLAP, rare donors,  Dedicated RBC, AFFP, or PLAP. Facilitate other staff and departments to draw patients/donors and tag and track units to fill order
  • Verify eligibility of directed donors
