  • Bachelor or Science degree with completion of a Medical Technology training program
  • ASCP and NCA registration preferred
  • Ability to resolve complex serological problems independently
  • Provide clear and concise consultation to other medical technologists and physicians
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Must have full sight
  • Hearing impairment requiring a hearing aid(s) is acceptable
  • Must be fully ambulatory

Special Licensing/Certifications:

  • Certified by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) or registration or eligible with equivalent certification agency preferred

Primary Responsibilities:

Perform and provide compatibility testing and consultation services for resolution of complex serological problems in a timely and concise manner. Perform quality control, calibration, maintenance and calibration procedures for laboratory equipment. Perform ABO, Rh and extended RBC phenotypes using special techniques such as EGA and chloroquine treated cell, hypotonic wash and cell separation techniques as appropriate and suggesting the most probable genotype. Perform antibody screening procedures. Perform antibody investigation procedures using RBC panels, treated panels and selected cell panels. Peform neutralization studies using urine, pooled plasma, HPC, REST and P1and Lewis substances. Perform auto and allo adsorption procedures and use adsorbed sera for antibody investigations. Perform RBC crossmatch and procedures selecting antigen negative units as needed. Review patients medical and transfusion history and correlate with laboratory investigation. Perform DAT investigation procedures to include elution procedures and testing of eluates. Perform saline replacement procedures. Perform warm and cold auto antibody investigations. Resolve work ups and antibodies to high and low incidence antigens are present. Perform antibody titration procedures and distinguish between IgM and IgG reactivity. Perform antibody identification procedures using PEG, Lo-ion, Gel, DTT Ficin and Solid Phase techniques. Perform platelet antibody screen and cross match procedures. Perform fetal screens, KB stains and calculate appropriate RhoGam. Prepare consultation reports. Other duties as assigned.
